Is this TIVO killer?

I have done some research on this interesting MythTV concept. http://www.mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html goes further by making an installation CD out of Linux and MythTV.

It sounds great, but I haven't tested it yet. After all, I would need to have a TV tuner card ( encoder and decoder ) and massive HD space.

I wonder if anyone here have heard of this? If so, which of TV tuner card is supported, AND has a remote? Does it work well for you? Did you have problems with any part of installation and usage?
